On Wednesday night August 1, I was in Columbus Ohio to do a live painting at the inaugural “Rally for the Ranch” event, sponsored by the Bobby Rahal Foundation. Tension level was high most of the day waiting for United to locate and forward my luggage from Toronto which included all my paints and brushes. They showed up at the hotel a few hours before the event.
The event included a very nice car show and the dinner/auction that evening. This was just a few days before the Indycar and ALMS race weekend at nearby Mid-Ohio, and the room was full of some amazing driving talent. The painting commemorated Johnny Rutherford’s win at the very first Indycar race at Mid-Ohio in the beautiful Pennzoil-Chaparral. The painting came out great and was auctioned for $8000.00. It was signed by Johnny, Bobby and Graham Rahal, Dario Franchitti, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Bryan Herta! A lot of Indy 500 wins as drivers and owners on that painting! I was really sorry to leave without getting a high quality picture of it, this is the best I have:
